About

I live in the Highlands; always have, apart from the six years of lawyer training that took me south. It’s nice – my family’s here and I’m happy. I hope I’d say the same if I came from Paisley, Portsmouth or Peru.

Being a Highlander means I get the best hills and beaches, the funniest people and an extraordinary history from which to learn. But I’m defined by my human relationships and my choices, not by my beautiful domicile and its baggage.

I write contemporary fiction under my own name and collaborate with a funky London company writing women’s fiction, using interesting pseudonyms. It’s the closest I ever come to being mysterious.

Obstinately, I escape to write in a little flat in Central London whenever I can, in order to get some peace and quiet from the hurly-burly of my Black Isle life. But most of the time I’m a Highland GP’s wife and a mother of three, who writes.

Wake up to the fact that that telephone call is never going to come. You know – the one that goes: ‘Erica! Erica! Thank goodness you’re at home! The entire writing crew of the BBC Drama Department has gone down with a nasty bug! We’ve been hearing you do a bit of writing – can you come down and save the day?networking
